A woman driving over a bridge stops a man from jumping off of it and ending his life. This premise made picking my December Book of the Month very easy. This Close to Okay by Leesa Cross-Smith was a delightful read of some heavy stuff. Obvious trigger warning for suicide, though it’s not discussed in detail the rest of the book, it starts out with a man about to jump off a bridge.
The rest of the book is the hours and days after Tallie, the woman, takes the man for coffee, then brings him home to ensure he is safe and taken care of. They share their lives with one another over those few days, neither of them being fully truthful about who they are.
I loved the characters in this book and was sad when the book ended. Not because it was a bad ending, but I wanted more of their lives.
